language? Here in Townsville is the James Cook University, and
they have a degree in IT (Programming). I was considering visiting the
Dean there and ask if one of hte students want to write this
program either for their PhD or if it would be to 'simple' for that as
a project within the studying fro the degree ...Originally I wanted to
do that when I was studying there, but my life took a different turn
and I stopped studying......Is this a good idea? So would you be able
to give me any information I might need before I go there? Just wanting
to help. Antony
-------------------------
Hello Everyone, and Antony -
Thank you for your kind offer to help with SignWriter 5.0...When it
comes to that specific project, it is necessary that I complete the
project with a professional java programmer. We have been working on
the java code since 1996. ...At present we have the collaboration of a
java programmer from Sun Microsystems, (the company that developed
java), so I do have a programmer, Antony...I just want to be able to
pay him - and I am sure I will be able to do that too...I just have to
write a grant ;-)
But having said that, if you personally want to become a programmer,
you are always welcome to develop your own software for SignWriting.
There are programmers all over the world who are doing that right now,
and I am sure there will be a day when we all will be using several
different kinds of software for SignWriting. Each program is important,
because each programmer offers the world another perspective on a very
needed subject.
We could use an Australian Sign Language dictionary written in
SignWriting...I believe you mentioned you will be working on that, in
both SignWriter DOS and SignBank? I hope so - That is a job I cannot
do...and that is much more important...I know your wife is Deaf, and
you both are fluent signers? Your job is sharing your language with the
world and that is something very unique and needed...
Have a wonderful weekend -
Val ;-)
