thanks for the info, wayne and valerie.

i've downloaded the files, and now i'm trying to get the printer settings
right.

my canon bjc-240 doesn't seem to match any of the three options of
epson|hp|postscript and i don't know which port to use out of the five
COM1|COM2|LPT1|LPT2.  i hope it's just a matter of finding the right
combination (by trial and error at this point).  [just found:  the printer is
parallel.]

i am thoroughly impressed by the dictionary.  how many entries does it have?
it seems to be only one way, viz. asl to english.  is this true?
