Need your advice...which compression should I use?

Besides being tied to one particular platform? Things compressed in .exe format have an
additional "stub" of code which is the program that does the decompression; this is just
more stuff, and it's a windows-only solution. *Anyone* can look at a zip file, because
the software for decoding it is ubiquitous. In fact, Java uses it to compress their
programs into .jar files (which is really a zip file of Java classes).

Use zip. Please. :-)
