Dear SW List, and Stefan!
The answer to your question above, Stefan, is Yes....Once you followed
my instructions and pasted in your first sign, the GIF for that sign
became embedded into the database...it was pasted in, and is not
"linked" to your folder... so you can move your folder or re-name it,
and there is no danger because the sign is now a solid part of
SignBank....

In the world of "Databases" you need to know these two terms:

1. EMBEDDED FILES are pasted into the database. Once they are pasted
in, they are a part of the database and they are not linking to any
other folder...so you can move the database without worrying where the
original GIFs are...ALL GIFs and JPEGs in SignBank are embedded. So
when you followed my instructions to find the GIF and paste it into
SignBank, you were "embedding" the GIF....so if you move the original
folder somewhere else, or if you rename your folder, or rename your
GIFs, SignBank will not know the difference, since those files are not
linked separately...

2. LINKED FILES are not pasted into the database...they are separate
and the database has to find them everytime you want to use the
file...so linked files must always remain in the same folder, and the
folder cannot be re-named, or the database will not be able to find the
links later...The ONLY files that are linked, in SignBank, are the
video and animation .mov format, since those files are larger and it is
better for SignBank to keep them separate...The "linked" video and
animation files are always kept in a folder named SignBank Links (see
attached GIF)...Open that folder and take a look inside...you will see
animation and video clips only...

So in summary, in SignBank, all SignWriting signs, icons, symbols and
children's illustrations are embedded. All video, animation and
high-quality photographs are linked...

I hope to continue teaching tomorrow - Thanks for your question! Val
;-)
