SW/Literacy

Hello.  I am new to the list and have only recently learned of sign writing.
  I  am very interested in learning more!  I am presently working on my MA
in Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh.  I am also an ESL teacher.
One of the things I am interested in researching is how sign writing as a
first written language might facilitate the acquisition of literacy in a
second language (such as English).
If anyone knows of any research/leads/contacts I would appreciate any
relevant information.
