SignWriting List
June 8, 2004

Dear SW List, Adam and Stefan!
I like Stefan's writing the best, so if you are going to include a
facial expression, Adam, anyway, with your sign for tail, then I think
the parentheses around the facial expression is the cleanest and
simplest way to write the back of the body...

However, if for any reason you do not want to include the facial
circle, then back of the body can be written in other ways. Please see
the attached diagram. It shows four ways...1. Stefan's writing....2.
Showing the back of the hips with the parentheses around the hips....3.
The suspenders that hold the stick figure's pants up, is the classic
way to show the back of the body in DanceWriting...it is the X between
the hips and shoulders...that is Stanley the stick figure's suspenders
that hold up his pants! But that is not used normally in
SignWriting...and 4. The parentheses can be placed around the whole
body...as it is in DanceWriting...see the diagrams below...

So please show us how you choose to write it, Adam!
