Hi Sandy, Valerie and friends ...
I think this performance of the deaf kids is a very welcome possibility to
think about spelling problems!
So for somebody like me- who is unable to understand the background of
computer-software - issues - I love to learn more about the basics of SW
-
I sat down and tried to understand different spelling options
I would like to offer a series of three gifs - Hope you like to discuss or
to comment the spellings -
The critical aspect in my point of view:
first of all : - the thumb is always a problem - (ha!!)
- second: I am not sure whether we need a different movement-symbol in this
case. For my students I often prefer to write a sequence of start - and end
position - the reader will find his way to get his thumb from here to there
(smile)
But - if we try to examine the movement in detail - we might find kind of
half circle rotation???
I remember our special "scissors" hinge which is different from other
hinge-movements.
Somehow the thumb can move in circles and up und down und left and right ...
So it depends what we want him to do - ;-))
Here are my three gifs - showing different birds - flying - .. ;-)) one of
them should be the one, the children had in mind -
What do you think Sandy - and Valerie??
Stefan;-))

Sandy - The thumb, like other fingers too, can bend from the middle
joint, or from the knuckle joint. The middle joint uses the dots, to
show squeezing or flicking motion. But when the finger or thumb remain
straight, there can be a hinge-like motion from the knuckle
joint...that Hinge motion is written with little arrows...please see
attached....So I believe that the Hinge motion is what you need for
your wing-flapping motion...this example is not the right handshape, so
can you try to apply these symbols and then post another version of
your writing?...I am also curious about the index and baby fingers of
the other handshape that is not the L handshape...
