[sw-l] Charset problem in SignMaker

Hi Signuno,

All signs are stored as files. For glossing, I replace all spaces with
dashes.

There are also additional characters that are illegal for filenames:
~!@#$%^&*()+{}[]|:;<>,.?`=/\"

Since I was replacing spaces with dashes, I just included the illegal
characters in the string replace.

The sign name "ĝi" had the illegal characters "&#;" replaced with "-",
resulting in "--285-i".

This is a legacy problem with Sign Puddle. The signs are stored as files
rather than in a database.

And due to code problems, I switched back to latin-1 rather than unicode.

I entered "ĝi" (two letters: ^g + i) at
http://signbank.org/signpuddle/SGN-EO/ but it stored
the sign as "--285-i". Help.

Looking at http://signbank.org/signpuddle/sgn-CH-fr/ I
see some accented letters have worked, but I also see
some "--". Strange.

Any ideas?
S.
