[sw-l] Frustrations of SignWriter DOS users...

Stefan,

I think that where this is going is that we do need a Word Processor, and we
do need software for educational use. Perhaps they're two different things.

Thanks for setting my mind at rest about glossing from dictionaries :)

I think you will always get such glossing anyway - it would be too easy a
feature to program for a programmer to want to miss it out. But I still
think it's important to develop ways of typing quickly without depending on
the dictionary, because one day there will be people (perhaps your
students?) who have grown up with SW and having to stop all the time to pull
stuff from dictionaries when they already know the exact spelling they want
could be very frustrating indeed. It would feel a bit like writing an
English document by typing in French and hoping the software can supply the
English word you mean!

Of course I am very much into block printing with pencil and paper at the
moment! My list of hand-printed signs is way ahead of my ability to put them
into the Puddle dictionary, easy though that is! So as far as word
processers go, I can wait. But as far as Val's new handwriting manual goes,
I can't wait! That will be like Christmas Day :)

Sandy
