Wow. Do you think so? A single simple sign can take 10 characters to write
in HamNoSys. At least Stokoe's uses superscripts and subscripts to bundle
things into approximate "syllables." And to be fair, (a) his work was
based on his preliminary observations, and (b) in his later writings, he
more or less repented of the whole affair (particularly in his work on
"semantic phonology").

They are the Forth and APL of sign notation systems, aren't they? :-)

I did a phonetic sketch of Jordanian SL using HamNoSys. Transcribing a
story that way was absolutely excruciating. It's never a picnic, but this
was a whole new level of pain. Re-doing it in SW was a breeze by
comparison.
