ANGLE HANDSHAPES continued...
Let us apply those questions to the sign for TEACH in ASL.
1. HANDSHAPE? .....The handshape is an ANGLE HAND.
2. PALM FACING?....The back of the hand faces my body, so it is black,
or filled-in.
3. FINGER DIRECTION?....The fingers tips are directed straight forward.
FINGER DIRECTION RULE: When fingertips are directed straight forward
they are actually written directed TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE BODY. The
reader sees the back of the hand, and knows that for the back of the
hand to be facing the body, the fingertips are REALLY directed forward.
It looks a little weird, but it is read correctly. This rule is
continued next message...
