Stefan,

In Brussels or Maastricht?

I think Kathleen and I can be flexible.

It's important to have a mini-conference that can become an annual European
conference - and giving the SignWriting a real boost - and open up the
discussion on sign language teaching in Europe - that is BADLY needed.

Kathleen, me and Ingvild seem to be happy to go ahead with Brussels - but we
need to agree on the dates - the reason why we suggested Brussels is that
Kasterlinden (the deaf school in Brussels) may be more than happy to give us
the room (and the lecture theatre if needed) for free if we are to hold our
mini-conference.

You know that yourself that many Europeans will not go to the ICED for a few
reasons - too expensive to attend, lack of accommodation for deaf
participants (i.e. they're asking us to pay for our interpreters to go as
conference participants!!! - reduced rate they say but that’s still cheeky)
etc - and it will be in Maastricht that doesn’t have a strong deaf community
therefore there will be more focus on the oralist and cochlear implant
agenda.

(it took me and the SLCB 3 months to decide whether my work can pay for me
to go or not...)

Shane
