Hello Valerie,

for some reason you did not mention our school - ;-(( - but nevertheless may
I ask for a a set of DVD´s as well?

It would be helpful within the coming workshops, presentations and ...

Stefan ;-)

SignWriting List
March 18, 2005

Hello Shane!
Well...I am glad I asked...then maybe you can test my new DVDs for me,
to see if they play well in Europe! If I make a mistake, you can teach
me how to correct it on my Mac ;-)

Now, in regards to the captions...These videos are in ASL
obviously...with English captions on the bottom of the screen....We
have learned that people benefit from seeing them anyway, even if their
signed language is not ASL, because the diagrams in SignWriting are
clear, and seeing Deaf people teach and discuss SignWriting, even in a
foreign Sign Language, can inspire some students...and for those who
can read English captions, it is easy to understand. The videos/DVDs
come with printed booklets that transcribe the English captions word
for word, so at least you have a booklet of the English voice on the
videos/DVDs...it is my voicing for the female signers and another
interpreter for the male signers...One video is silent, with no voice
or captions, but Darline does such a great storytelling job of
Goldilocks that it is still useful because we have the written
SignWriting to go with it...

But the captions that James Short mentioned to me has nothing to do
with English captions..James has developed a way to place SignWriting
captions on spoken language programs...so imagine watching a
hearing-program of people speaking, with an ASL translation written in
SignWriting going across the computer screen....That is not on the
videos I will be sending you, but that is the future....

So someday, Shane, there can be written captions in ISL or NISL on TV
programs made in Ireland!!

Val ;-)
