Hi Ingvild!
Great to hear from you....This is a good question. It is correct that
generally, in the Expressive View, we are seeing the signs as if we are
looking through the back of a signer...or as you say, over the shoulder
of a signer ;-)

But we still have times, when we need to contact the back of the head,
and we need to explain to the reader that we are touching the back and
not the front of the head....so parentheses are still used, in the
Expressive, when we are touching or relating to the back of the
body...And these parentheses can be put around different body parts to
show that we are relating to the "back of"....not just the head,
although the head is the most commonly used one...Here is an example...

1. Contact front of forehead
2. Contact back of head high up
