Dear SW List...Stuart, Stefan...everyone -
What matters is that we can help the research project, so Stuart you
need to guide us a little more as to what you need to know...smile...

Please excuse me if I got us on the wrong track here...maybe you do
not want a discussion of Spelling Rules, and are interested in
something else entirely?...

Thanks for your comment above, Stefan. The length of the arrow stem
determines the length of the movement. If the arrow is small, the
hands would start fairly close to each other, and if the arrow stem
is longer, the hands start further away from each other...so within
the rules that were established by our Deaf Action Committee and
myself back in the 1980s and 1990s, we chose to write the position of
contact, and then the length of the arrow stem told us how far away
we started the movement...the movement could have been wiggly and
uneven, or with corners or curves, it could be long or short, but the
focus was still the position of contact, because the purpose of the
arrow is to finish in contact, and that contact holds the focus...see
attached...Thanks for your excellent comments!
