SignWriting List
February 15, 2006

Dear SW List Members:
Our list includes members from around 30 countries...Anyone can join
on their own, directly on the web ;-)

This means that some List members are new to SignWriting, and others
are advanced signwriters. And some are researchers who want to find
out about SignWriting, just for general information. Some are
computer programmers and software developers who need to test their
new SignWriting software with SignWriting users. Some are Deaf, and
some are hearing who sign, and some are hearing who want to learn to
sign! Wonderful group! We are lucky we have the internet to bring us
all together from so many diverse backgrounds, goals and languages ;-)

How do I teach SignWriting to such a wonderful group? I see this List
as a workshop. It is like a one-room schoolhouse, where each person
has a different goal or need...And I am here to answer your
questions...And as I answer, hopefully other List members learn from
the answers...

This means that you have to ask questions. If you are a beginner,
write to the List and show us a picture of one sign you want to
write, and then we will write that together... learning one sign at a
time...In time it just clicks and becomes easier...

Today I need to test SignText Editor, a new and wonderful computer
program developed by Steve Slevinski. The message-headers will start
with the name SIGNTEXT... I am going to type a complete SignWriting
document today, using SignText. While I do this, I will be writing a
manual and also sharing with the SignWriting List.

If you are a beginner, and wish to learn SignWriting, feel free to
ask your OWN questions, not related to software...

All of your questions are welcome at anytime!

Val ;-)
