SignWriting Mission Statement

I'd change the first sentence:

To provide all Sign Language users a written form for their languages..... (and shouldn't the last sentence be.... Sign Writing is "a" written form for all sign languages."

Although Sign Writing and Sutton Movement Writing in general CAN write all movement, HamNoSys and Stokoe notation are written forms of particular signed languages so the sentence is not true with "the" as in "the only". It is true if one says that

Sign Writing is the only writing system that "CAN" write all sign languages and it is our mission to tell the world that signed languages are now written languages.

Mission: To provide all Sign Language users a written form for their language. To provide all Deaf cultures written Sign Language Literature to preserve their Sign Language poetry, stories, and to document their native language. To raise the literacy levels and self-esteem of all Sign Language users, placing their languages equally beside spoken languages, on library shelves. SignWriting is the written form for all Sign Languages, and it is our mission to tell the world that Sign Languages are now written languages!

  Hello Mark and Bill...
This is an excellent example, that even an old writing system like English, can have different ways of writing grammar, depending on the writer and the reader! The sentence is a long and complicated one...

What about a paragraph like this instead?

Mission: To provide all Sign Language users a written form for their language. To provide all Deaf cultures written Sign Language Literature to preserve their Sign Language poetry, stories, and to document their native language. To raise the literacy levels and self-esteem of all Sign Language users, placing their languages equally beside spoken languages, on library shelves. SignWriting is the written form for all Sign Languages, and it is our mission to tell the world that Sign Languages are now written languages!

Mark, I was reading Val's statement a little differently with the "improving", "providing", and "preserving" statements as being participle adjective phrases modifying the infinitive phrase "To provide ... ."

    Hi Val,

It's looking good! I hope you don't mind, I modified some of the grammar (see below).

  Mission:
To provide Deaf communities and signers around the world with a written form for all Sign Languages, improve literacy levels of the signing-deaf, provide tools and software for education, linguistic research and publishing, preserve languages and literature that have never been recorded, and provide added respect and self-esteem for all those who use Sign Language as their primary language.

I agree, one mission statement will probably more concisely communicate your efforts. I wrote my own version below. Hope it helps!

  SignWriting Mission Statement
"To provide the Deaf community and ... throughout the world with the ability to flourish through the use of their native language."
Our objectives thus far are the following: (then list the objectives you stated earlier)

As for the ... section, I wasn's sure how to state that part. It should encompss those like teachers, researchers, and so on. Perhaps something like, "those with a vested interest" (which isn't very good)...

  Val,

I'm wondering if you could write that into one mission statement that encompasses all those separate missions as tasks. You would have one mission and several tasks to that mission. A broader mission statement then may be "A sustained and verifiable worldwide effort in SignWriting use and development for the promotion and education to and for the Deaf, their teachers, the public and researchers on and for the benefits and applicability of written signed languages. The mission tasks are:
  To provided all .... "

So now we have 12! See below...

Can anyone think of any more?
