Everyone,

just a quick email here.

The workshop - it went very well - its a small group - informal and
easy to work with - there were a few interesting discussions - as
always, Ingvild is good to work with - and Lucyna was instrumental in
teaching basic signwriting and International Signs.

See Hear!, a BBC TV programme for deaf people in the UK, came over and
filmed us - I was busy catching up gossip with the See Hear! team as I
know them from my London years and I spoke to half of the DCAL people
as theyre academics just like me - but they were very interested in SW
but like most deafies, they wont give it a go at first - but at least
they didnt rubbish it - they just looked interested - but they failed
to see how important it can be - that is something we need to look
into.

They filmed the workshop - and they have interviewed Bencie Woll the
DCAL director (as she used to use SW in Univ of Bristol's Centre for
Deaf Studies years ago - to record International Signs) - and they
interviewed me (I was pathetic) and I had to drag Ingvild in as I knew
she ll give better answers as she was involved with SW for 20 years!

Positive weekend - good publicity and all that.

DCAL was wonderful in accomodating our needs!

I ll be off to Kenya this Thursday - I will speak to two universites
there about introducing SignWriting

Shane
