SignWriting List
April 11, 2007

Hello Cherie-
This is my fault - I apologize. I did not realize the video itself
was on YouTube until last night. I knew it was on Harkle.com with
captions, but I had no idea it was on YouTube. James Short is a
captioning expert who is on our Board. He called me in the middle of
February to say that now there was a way to create SignWriting
captions on videos very quickly, with software made or at least
provided at YouTube... and he could do one for me quickly to show
me...and actually I was pretty excited to see the video with the
captions on it...so now in hindsight, this makes sense that YouTube
was involved with the process of making the captions. James is in
Japan right now, and will be back in a week or so. I will write to
him on email today to tell him to take it down...

Meanwhile the captioning of SignWriting on videos can be done a
slower and more elegant way...with programs like FinalCut Pro on the
Mac and other video editing software...but it is a slow process and
expensive too, because the software costs a great deal of money. So
it is understandable that James was excited about the process going
so quickly with this new software on YouTube that is free...

Anyway - that is the story...

That is why I said the internet is scary...things happen you don't
expect...

The other day someone from another country contacted me to ask me to
delete a message they wrote that was posted on the List several years
ago and they felt it should not have been posted...so I had to
contact technicians to take it down from two archives and it would
have been easy if the person had not been upset - but we did succeed
at getting the message wiped off the archives...

Which brings up my question...Maybe I can take Cherie's video down
myself from YouTube? Can Cherie take it down herself? How does
YouTube work? I am going to have to learn!

Val ;-)
