Both are fine ;-)

I guess the best thing is to be consistent. All line drawings or all 
photos...

Photos take up more data...they are usually larger, in regards to 
file size, than line drawings. Therefore, for smaller illustrations, 
usually line drawings are preferred. But small photos are accurate 
and maybe less work...It depends on the document and its purpose...

But either are fine...

Photos of your own hands would mean that you own the diagram...

Will we have permission to use your diagram, when it is finished? ;-))
