I would have to disagree with this.

The A is not the L and the thumb is flat against the hand in the A and sticking out in the L.  

I prefer a photographic equivalent if at all possible.  If I can't lay my hand on the object and trace the finger, within reason, then it is not accurate.

The thumb goes up an angle on the A, and sticks Out in an L.  The Parkhursts are just plain wrong in my book, and I learned directly fro YOU Valerie.  You are the inventor, and have every right to pick a way that is consistent. It's your job, and no one else's.  As long as you are alive, you have the right to be the arbiter.

Hello Stefan!
Thank you for your opinion. As you know, the Parkhurst textbook  
changed the thumbs so that all the thumbs to the side are like the L  
Handshape...this is what they did in their textbook, as you know:
