Changing colours

Thank you so much, Steve, for the explanation and the examples!  I'm not sure I completely understand how it works, but I'll get it better as I play with it.  Just one more question: Could you give me an example of a command string that would change the colour of the 3rd, 4th and 5th signs in an 8-sign column?

The most important thing to me at this point, though, is that I did make the direct quote on this page (also represented by body shift) red! :-)
