SignWriting List
November 12, 2007
Hello Kathleen and Sara!
Thank you for re-joining the new SignWriting List....Welcome back...;-)
When our List crashed back in July 2007, we were all required to re-
join the new List...There are still older members of the List who
still probably don't realize they need to re-join, even though I have
tried to write to everyone...
So tell your friends, if you know anyone else who might not realize...
So let me answer your questions one by one...and then I hope Steve
can also answer some of your questions...
And thanks, Adam, for your info too...

I am not very educated to the current issues...Would you like to tell
us about the latest? What is happening in Belgium recently, and at
Kasterlinden School? I know you have both a Flemish Sign Language
and a French-Belgian Sign Language...at least we have two separate
SignPuddles for you ;-))
I also plan to give you a Literature Puddle soon, so you can add your
stories written in SignText to the Online Literature Library like
other countries are doing now...
Have you seen for example, the ASL Literature Puddle, or the German
or Norwegian? Your Flemish stories could be written like that
online...I will try to make the Literature Puddle for you shortly...

Yes. Back in March, 2007, we changed over to the new SignPuddle 1.5.
But some people had bookmarked the old SignPuddle 1.0, and continued
to use the old one, not realizing we had switched over to new
software...
A week or 10 days ago, we took the old SignPuddle 1.0 down, since we
had given everyone over 6 months to make the transition to the new
software...
I am sorry you did not realize that SignPuddle had changed, but I am
very glad you are learning SignPuddle 1.5 now, which is our future...

Yes. I assumed you knew that SignPuddle was designed for Firefox and
that everyone is supposed to use Firefox when using SignPuddle...
So it wasn't until you showed me a screen capture of your screen,
that I could see you were using Internet Explorer. Then I went over
to a Windows XP laptop I have and tested it in Internet Explorer and
I noticed immediately the problem you were having...the Translate
Feature and the Login feature are not working in Internet Explorer.
Since we tell everyone to use Firefox I hadn't realized the problem
in Internet Explorer myself...
So just use Firefox like all the rest of us, and your problems are
solved...
> Does anyone have an explanation for this?
Yes. SignPuddle was designed for the Firefox browser, not Internet
Explorer.
SignPuddle fortunately seems to work ok in other browsers such as
Netscape, Opera, Safari and Camino, but not Internet Explorer...
Why? It is a programming issue. Steve is overloaded with jobs right
now for new features in SignPuddle, so Internet Explorer has to wait
a little...of course someday it would be nice to get it to work
there, but it means money and time to program it specially to
work...and since we tell everyone to use Firefox in our literature,
we hope people realize...

That is true. I understand that issue. On the other hand, Firefox is
free and easy to download and install, if your school allows your
teachers to install it.

Yes. Go to this web page to download the free Firefox:

It is actually faster now. It is just an adjustment to get used to
the new Translate feature...
I will write with some of the advantages next message...
Val ;-)
