Dear Honza, and Everyone -

On October 1, 2007 we discussed In-Between Palm Facings on the  
SignWriting List...You can find the discussions in the SW List

But here is a summary...

1. Technically, there are 10 palm facings. But we can read 99 per  
cent of signs accurately with 6 palm facings.

2. We will never include all 10 palm facings for every handshape in  
computer programs. We are going to stick to the 6 palm facings. That  
is enough detail for everyday writing.

3. So how do we write the exceptions, like BOAT or ROOF?

4. . There are three "unusual" symbol-entries in the IMWA that make  
it possible to write BOAT, ROOF or other flat hand signs that have  
unusual angles  (see attached diagram)

5. I personally love the Heel of Hand symbol, which is the Front View  
of the wrist of the Flat Hand projecting forward....
