BILL and others,

So that there is NO misunderstanding, I have re-edited this. If this is not clear from the title of the conference and the spell-out nothing is. ENOUGH!

CALL FOR PAPERS: (Please post where appropriate) (Thank you all).

SignWriting Linguistics Society* in cooperation with the Center for Sutton Movement Writing calls for papers on the use of SignWriting in Linguistics.

Any signed language is welcome to present using any subject matter; however,. the purpose of this conference is the SignWriting transcription system and its use in linguistic study. You may present any subject, but SignWriting must be the transcription system used for subject matter and examples, though Stokoe, HamNoSys, and English Gloss may be used comparatively.

Topics for papers must be "SignWriting-related", including the use of
SignWriting in linguistics, literacy, vocabulary acquisition, sign
language instruction, deaf education, sign language research, and in
the Deaf Community. All signed languages are welcome as examples.

The primary conference languages are English and ASL (both signed and tactile). If you use other signed languages we must know in advance to see if interpreters in your signed language are available but we cannot guarantee their availability.

Each presenter should include the following in bid:

 1) Name
 2) Address
 3) Contact Information
 4) Credentials
 5) Interpreting Needs (Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, Hearing)
 6) Title of Presentation
 7) Abstract - Up to 300 words
 8) Length of Presentation - 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours (maximum)
 9) AV Needs (PC portal, overhead projector, flip charts)
 10) Mobility needs (the hotel meeting space is flat and without stairs or obstacles)

In addition, Poster Sessions will also be available. If you have a presentation that can best be done as a free-standing poster, let us know. We have room for up to 12 poster sessions which will be up for the duration of the conference.

DEADLINE: Abstract Deadline for this first call is September 1, 2008. There may be a second call.

PURPOSE: Abstracts will be used to build a conference in late October 2008 or Spring of 2009 at Kellogg Center at Gallaudet University, in Wasington, DC, USA.

It is our intention that this conference will be open to all, and especially to Gallaudet University students, faculty, and staff.

 Send abstracts to:

 Charles Butler
   3205 Kimberly Road
 Hyattsville, MD 20782

*SignWriting Linguistics Society is a private venture formed for this conference only. Send inquiries to Charles Butler at the address above or call (240) 764-5748.

Maybe this is being too picky but doesn't the 4th paragraph starting with "Topics" negate the third paragraph, "Any signed language is welcome to present using any subject matter"?
