Yes...I agree...the simpler the better for the majority of
documents...I read Adam's original writing fine, and did not feel the
need for the rotation symbols, but others did, so you can see people
are varied...
The ISWA 2008 symbolset is a vast, and varied symbolset that offers
all kinds of levels of simplicity and detail, depending on the writer.
It is my job just to point out all the symbols so people can make
their own choices...But just because the symbols are there, does not
require people to use them all...The ISWA 2008 is a useful symbolset
because you can use about 1/4 or it, and still write your language,
but when you come across a very complex sign, it usually has the
symbol for that one rare case etc...
I want to thank Ingvild and Charles for pointing out that the rotation
was not being written in Adam's original writing, because that brought
up the important topic of how simple, or how complex we need to
write...Based on what we see, both simple and detailed ways of writing
are correct, because we cannot write ALL that we see, only some of
what we see, and that is where the individual writer has to make
decisions...
For me, the simple writing of FREE or FREEDOM has become an
"understood standard"...and the rotation is assumed..
Val ;-)
