Yes, I can imagine it seems strange that someone might think that one  
arrow stem line with three arrowheads would mean one long movement and  
two short at the end, but they did...This happened twice to me, when  
students were reading documents "out loud"...that is why we went back  
to the multiple arrows rather than the stacked arrowheads...the  
multiple arrows were read with more accuracy it seemed...

Of course this was not exactly a scientific test ;-))

People think differently though...

So even without any stem line added to the second and third  
arrowheads, they can be misread as "two short movements following the  
first longer movement"...

That is why stacking the arrowheads partially on top of each other was  
an attempt to make it clear it was one movement that had to go back to  
the beginning of the stem line to do the movement in its entirety  
three times...the squished and stacked arrowheads become a cluster  
that almost look like a different symbol in its own right...with the  
proper definition for that, maybe it would be read with more  
accuracy...who knows? ;-))
