And thanks for all your comments about the Heel of Hand view.

The Heel of Hand is new to most of you, so no worries....It is an old
symbol that has been revived for a reason...although it is not a
requirement to use it, because technically the writing system could
already write these positions from the Top View, it does help to write
some rare signs, like BOAT and SLANTED-ROOF and a few other signs that
are very hard to write, plus, an added benefit is that for some
people, it is easier to read in other signs as well...

But the Top View has been well documented and presented already in
textbooks, and therefore is clearly understood worldwide...

That is why Adam is doing all the photos of all the handshapes in the
ISWA and preparing the animated GIFs of each handshape, so we can
document all the new symbols, as well as the old ones, for future
generations of signwriters...

And no one is required to use the Heel of Hand symbol...it is only
there for those who want to use it...

Adam has not finished the photos and animated gifs for the Heel of
Hand yet, but Adam, can you find some photos of the Heel of Hand and
post it to the SignWriting List right now? That would be very helpful
for this discussion...

To answer your question, Ron....

No. The Heel of Hand does not mean looking from the floor up.

The Heel of Hand is the "Front View of a Hand Parallel to the Floor".
You view the wrist, with the hand hidden behind it, since the hand is
projecting forward, parallel to the floor, you cannot see the fingers
very well because they are hiding behind your view of your own wrist.

With a pointed tip, you know you are looking at the full Flat Hand
symbol....but without a pointed tip, the fingers are projecting
forward and the tip of the fingers are "hiding" behind the wrist...the
Heel of the Hand:
