SignWriting Workshop could be setup at TISLR 2010

I am speaking to a current linguist here in Greenbelt who is working on a very large database on SW that could be merged into a SW sequence at TISLR.  That would be a major coups.  Now if we could get our Brasilian friends to ask for it, as well as Portuguese, and European, it will be clear that it is not just one set of people clamoring.
I want to be a part of this process as I had such great fun at TISLR in Brazil and people wanted more solid information.
If I have something to project that far ahead, we can work on packaging things like BINGO in Sign Writing, and other educational games for the Vendors area beyond just SW books.

Hi Shane!

PLEASE do! Go right ahead and suggest a SignWriting workshop to the TISLR 2010 people...

It is always better that you or other people suggest SignWriting workshops, rather than me...then they don't think I am promoting something ...instead they realize that "real" people want a workshop - ha! big grin....

So please go ahead -

And by the way, I know that you coordinated a big African Sign Languages conference in Germany recently...isn't that true? Congratulations on all you have accomplished - I hope your conference went well...

And I hope Eyasu from Ethiopia was also able to attend in Germany?

Tell us all about it, Shane -

Val ;-)

The theme of this conference "Research Methodologies in Sign Language Linguistics" highlights the fact that there are many different theoretical approaches that contribute to our understanding of this typological class of languages. Generative and cognitive approaches, quantitative and qualitative approaches all assist in proposing new generalizations about sign languages and, importantly, in independently validating previous proposals made in the field. Each approach provides a fresh perspective which can help our field move forward as a cumulative discipline.
