Hi Meryeme -

of course typing in Notepad using our Sutton Fonts, that are TrueType fonts, has nothing to do with SignWriter DOS....we differentiate between software programs because different programs have different features and different requirements - obviously a font, like a TrueType font, which is what the Sutton fonts are, is a totally different thing, than typing using SignWriter DOS...

Fingerspelling can be written from left to right, like English, and right to left, like Arabic...

But signs are written in visual clusters that are not written from left to right, and those visual clusters, or SignSpellings, need another kind of a program, like SignWriter DOS or SignWriter Java or SignPuddle or the new SignWriterStudio... http://www.signwriterstudio.com

so the Sutton TrueType fonts are fun, and the symbols are certainly from SignWriting, but fingerspelling is only a part of writing sign languages -

now if you can use SignPuddle Online, I will be happy to teach you how to copy and paste signs from SignPuddle Online into Microsoft Word or any other program other than Notepad - smile...

We do that daily and we also publish 500 page books now, using SignPuddle Online, all written in SignWriting in columns - we combine the ColumnMaker features in SignPuddle with another program I developed recently called DocumentMaker Pro, in FileMaker Pro, which gives us the layout pages of the documents that are written first in SignPuddle.

>From reading what you are doing below, I wonder if you would consider using our more modern software? which is not only SignPuddle, but also BSW (Binary SignWriting) and the SignWriting Image Server? Maybe it would work on Windows in C++ - I am not a programmer, but I am a person who uses SignWriting daily on SignPuddle, and I bet, with Steve's help, and with everyone's help here on the SignWriting List, you can do it in more modern software - SignWriter DOS is a good program for it's time, and MS-DOS is good too, but both are a little out of date...and they are not something I am so skilled with any longer - Richard Gleaves and I developed the SignWriter DOS program over two decades ago, and computers have changed so enormously - 

All of our programs will be using ISWA 2010, the International SignWriting Alphabet 2010, by early 2011 -
