Hello everyone,

I do not have a question or concern in particular. I just want to share my thoughts about how great sign writing is. I am always blown away when I read about it being used in so many countries around the world. The benefits and the impact are just astounding. I would like to commend all of you for the wonderful work you are doing, and keep it up! :-)

Warm Regards,

Sharon Collier

Hi Kate,

If I can ask, what are you trying to do with SWML?

SWML has a couple of limitations. SWML doesn't include the SignSpelling
Sequence. SWML doesn't force punctuation to be used alone and in the
middle lane. SWML allows sorting symbols to be used in a sign's
spelling, when sorting symbols should only be used in the SignSpelling
Sequence.

Regards,
-Steve

Hi Steve and Kate and everyone -
I have been meaning to tell everyone about the amazing project that is happening in South Africa. Kate's professor wrote to me to tell me a little about it...

I believe that Kate is working on converting sign language that is written in SignWriting to gestures using an avatar that has been developed as a part of the above project, and James Connan, the project leader, asked for our help...

If I have not explained your project correctly, Kate, feel free to correct me and tell us more about it...

We are very happy to help -

But I have a question for Steve...could the new Binary SignWriting or other new developments be used for avatar programming rather than SWML, when SignPuddle 2.0 is established later?

Hi Val,

For avatar programs, I think the SignSpelling Sequence would be
invaluable for animation. In a sense, the sequence for a sign is a
time oriented listing of the symbols in the spelling.

The new BSW data format includes the SignSpelling Sequence as part of
the data. Definitely useful.

Regards,

-Steve

Subject: [sw-l] Using BSW for sign avatar programming...

SignWriting List
February 23, 2010

Thanks Steve, for this information below...so when will BSW be available for use in sign language avatar programming?

Can the BSW Analyze button under each sign and document in SignPuddle Online give programmers the BSW data they need right now?
