The benefits are indirect.

One possible benefit involves MediaWiki.  The people reviewing the
    SignWriting MediaWiki Plugin did not appreciate the filesystem
    font.  The database font will resolve this issue for them.  This
    means a Wikipedia in SignWriting may be closer to reality.
