Hello Maria, Fabrizio and Erika -

Erika would be great if there is a linguistic element to Fabrizio’s work...

I would also suggest Dr. Antonio Carlos da Rocha Costa, Professor of Computer Sciences, from Brazil. It is because of Antonio Carlos, that SignWriting is in Brazil today. He contacted me in 1996, after finding SignWriting on the internet, and came to visit me here in my home in 1996. Dr. Rocha Costa was instrumental in spreading SignWriting in Brazil because his computer sciences students developed software related to writing sign languages, and he himself was the original developer of SWML and the SWEdit Program, which was and is used widely in Brazil and also influential in the world of software. Antonio Carlos was the advisor to Dr. Marianne Stumpf’s dissertation in Deaf Education research, which through Dr. Stumpf, spread SignWriting in the Deaf Community in Brazil. The SignWriting Symposium, with its 16 presenters from Brazil, is a testament to Dr. Rocha Costa’s work…I hope he can be of help to your computer science work, Fabrizio and Maria...
