If you look for these signs in the SignPuddle dictionary of different countries we almost find no entries with these symbols. Part of the reason may be that most of the signs can be understood without this additional description of a sign. On the other hand most of the SignWriting readers would not remember the meaning ... moving the head (yes/no and left/right) is no problem and very often sufficient

Hello Stefan -
Yes, that is true that many of these “movement-writing” gestures may not be necessary when writing signs for everyday use - Here we also do not write much with them, but at least it is possible to write such movements, if as you say, we are writing mime or gesture or perhaps sign language theater…

As time has gone by, more and more writers are choosing to write very simply, without as much detail as we thought we needed before -

Regarding the SignWriting List not being so busy lately…

I am here. Just busy with caring for my family. I work full time caring for my two wonderful and loving parents, who, indirectly, by supporting me all these years, have made my contributions to SignWriting and writing sign languages possible…so they come first in my life…

However, I am hoping now that we are stable with my parent’s care here in the home, to do a little more work in 2015 again - I am semi-retired, but I want to raise funds for SignWriting events, such as the Symposium. I would like to improve our web sites and our publications. I am hoping to clean the videos, add captions, and print the Proceedings of the 2014 Symposium…and we all need to discuss if we want another Symposium in July of 2015 or not? I am open to any of your ideas and it is all a matter of funding and time -

No matter what, if you ask questions on the SignWriting List I will be delighted to answer and will try to keep up with all of your enthusiastic participation!

Val ;-)
