Hi Valerie,

again and again I am impressed about your ability to clarify and to explain
these „ How to...“questions so perfectly.

Perhaps you want to add this lesson to the FAQ´s if it is not already there.

Have a wonderful day ...Im looking forward to Saturday– big smile

Stefan

SignWriting List

February 19, 2014

Hello Daniel (and everyone on the SW List)...

Ah
I see. If one is not used to being on email lists, I can imagine it must
seem odd that you received messages from other List members. That is
actually normal for a group list
There are around 200 to 250 members on the
SignWriting List now, from around 20 countries. Most members do not post
often, but some members post all the time. Everyone is welcome to post
messages in any language, and then we use Google Translate or other
translate programs to understand all our messages - It is very interesting
to learn about the way SignWriting is used around the world.

So right now, we are having a public conversation ;-)

.and that is good, because the point of the SW List is to share ideas
together, to tell others of our SignWriting projects, and to help each other
learn how to use SignWriting software and how to write signs
So I am happy
to teach you how to use SignMail, because that program may be of interest to
others on the SignWriting List too

So here are instructions:

HOW TO SEND EMAIL IN SIGNWRITING USING THE SIGNMAIL PROGRAM

Let us assume you want to send an email in ASL...

1. Go to the ASL Dictionary on SignPuddle:

http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/index.php?ui=1
<http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/index.php?ui=1&sgn=4> &sgn=4

2. On the left side of the screen, click on the Translate Button, which will
give you this url:

http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/translate.php?ui=1
<http://www.signbank.org/signpuddle2.0/translate.php?ui=1&sgn=4> &sgn=4

3. In the Translate text box, type the English gloss for the sentence in ASL
you wish to send to the SignWriting List, and push the Translate button.

4. A listing of many signs to choose from, will list below the Translate box
on the screen
click on the Radio Buttons to choose the signs you want

5. Scroll down and click on the Update Button. Your sentence will appear
written in SignWriting.

6. Then click on the SignMail button. That takes you to a screen where you
can type the TO and FROM email addresses, and then click on the SEND
button
.

I am going to send another email to the SignWriting List now, written in
ASL, following these instructions, so look for the next message written in
SignWriting

Keep asking questions!

Val ;-)

Thanks for getting back to me. I had thought maybe it was a software glitch,
since I got a email addressed to you and another teacher from another
suscriber. but yes I would love to learn how to use the signmail program.

Daniel.

SignWriting List

February 19, 2014

Hello Daniel!

Welcome to the SignWriting List.

Gosh, you think the List is bugged
do you mean there might be a virus on the
Listserve software from Valencia College in Florida?

I surely hope not - What makes you think that?

SignMail is a program inside of our SignPuddle software that makes it
possible to send email messages to each other in SignWriting. Have you tried
the SignMail program? If not, I could show you how here on the List - write
again if you are interested...

I just tried to send one to the SignWriting List - I am not sure if it
worked or not ;-)

Val ;-)
