SignWriting Symposium will have all presentations in ASL

The SignWriting Symposium 2014 has 40 presentations.

16 of the people presenting come from Brazil, and one comes from Portugal. So 17 people either speak Portuguese, or come from a country that speaks Portuguese. Therefore I feel we need a Portuguese-English and Portuguese-ASL interpreter.

I am happy to tell you that yesterday we hired an interpreter who is Brazilian, who at one time was a qualified LIBRAS interpreter in Brazil, but who is now living in San Diego and is a trained ASL interpreter … She can interpret between Portuguese spoken language and English spoken language, and from Portuguese spoken language to ASL…and probably from ASL to Portuguese…but she does not feel qualified any longer to interpret in LIBRAS…there will be better LIBRAS interpreters who live in Brazil ...

So far this is what I have decided:

1. All 40 presentations will be interpreted into ASL, with the ASL interpreters right here where we are broadcasting...

2. English-ASL, ASL-English and Portuguese-English, Portuguese-ASL will all happen live during the live presentations.

3. For those who need other interpreters, if you can contact the interpreter you want and put them in touch with me, I can teach that interpreter how to get online with their computer and interpret for you…But I need your help to find those specialized interpreters…

4. If you speak another language, that is fine! After the Live event is all over, we can go back and add captions and other interpreting, so that viewers can see the video of the live presentation, later, with that information - it will just happen later - that’s all ;-)

3. Para aqueles que precisam de outros intérpretes, se você pode contatar o intérprete que quiser e colocá-los em contato comigo, eu posso ensinar que interprete como ficar on-line com o seu computador e interpretar para você ... Mas eu preciso de sua ajuda para encontrar os intérpretes especializados ...

4. Se você fala outro idioma, que é muito bem! Após o evento ao vivo é todo, podemos voltar e adicionar legendas e outra interpretação, de modo que os espectadores podem ver o vídeo da apresentação ao vivo, mais tarde, com essa informação - ela só vai acontecer depois - isso é tudo ;-)
