[Sw-l] Gospels in SWML, anyone?

Hello Machado, Alex, André, Steve, Nancy, and everyone -

I am not sure I can answer your question exactly as a software developer would answer, but let me tell you about the complete New Testament and some of the Old Testament written with SignPuddle Online using SignWriting, written by ASL interpreter Nancy Romero…

There are also other projects too, such as the Shores Deaf Church translations, headed by Ron Dettloff, and others, which we can discuss next, but for right now, let me focus on Nancy’s work…

The complete New Testament is now written in ASL, and this was accomplished by one amazing ASL interpreter who dedicated a complete decade of non-stop work to translate from the English New Living Translation, into ASL, and then write it in SignWriting using SignPuddle Online. Nancy Romero wrote the complete New Testament in ASL. Then Nancy created PDF documents from the SignPuddle documents and those PDF documents are located on this web site:

I still need to post some of Nancy’s PDFs on ASLGospel.org <http://aslgospel.org/> so you will see some are not live links yet, but they are coming…but the entire New Testament is written nonetheless…and you can read all the documents in SignPuddle Online.

I believe that Nancy created these documents by using Steve’s Translate feature in SignPuddle, accessing this dictionary:

So how does Steve’s SignPuddle Translate feature work? By knowing the gloss of the sign that you want, and writing the translation in a word-gloss, in the translate tool, and then creating the documents in ASL in SignWriting based on that word gloss -

The sentences were written by adding all the signs needed in the dictionary, and then the translation was based on the glosses that represented the signs that were written in the dictionary -

So in a way, yes, glosses were used - but it is the end result in SignWriting that matters to the reader - no one is reading the glosses -

and not everyone composes sentences that way - but I believe that glosses were used in this case...
