I have just finished a Graduate Program for Future Faculty using teaching sign language to hearing people as part of the Teaching as Research component. That was at the Howard University Graduate School.
I will be doing a poster session at that same institution for a very small pilot study, but it shows that using SignWriting in the classroom is viable for a subject at a Graduate level.
For Cherie Wren, and others, I would strongly suggest approaching graduate schools with the same rigor and if you have the pilot study to help with your thesis, all the better. It requires diligence, being willing to defend your subject and follow the guidelines as any other graduate student. It is not a shoo-in, but it not impossible either.
Quote, in your application, that Letras that have been awarded to programs in Brazil as graduate level education studies, and my presentations that are available (ask Valerie Sutton for my work). I had to apply through FAFSA for my loans for my Divinity degree and was fortunate to combine those studies wiht my certificate, but it is not impossible.  Charles Butler chazzer3332000 at yahoo.com 240-764-5748 Clear writing moves business forward.

Hi Cherie!Oh, you have already done very important work on this subject...for years...as a teacher of Deaf students at a Deaf school, teaching science and so forth, and I remember you wrote papers proposing that SignWriting be used in Deaf Education, so you have been a pioneer on this subject already...and thank you for that... I will look later for your papers you sent me and I remember it was important work.
And then of course your contribution to signwritten literature in ASL, such as the Cat in the Hat, is testimony to your work...

Cat in the Hat is very popular -
Regarding the cost of getting a Masters Degree - are there no student loans any longer? Tell us more about what school you want to do the study in...

If I could afford a masters program, that would be my thesis--  that SW can improve literacy for Deaf children.  I know where I can get an experimental group and control group as well.  My first thought when I saw this paper was 'someone's doing it!'  ...before me!  At least we have the same idea...

Happy 2018 Everyone!

And thank you Steve, for starting out the new year with this positive news - I did not know about this paper and I look forward to reading it.

And thank you to the author, Daniel Gough -

Val ;-)
