Hi Val and SignWriting List,
Here is my report for Friday, September 28th, 2018. This is report 4 of 17.
Some people have expressed their interest in the PocketPuddle v3. I
have a box of 10 to give away. I will be shipping them later this year.
The first one is reserved for Jorge Pinto in Brazil.
The rest will be given away in weekly drawings. If you'd like to
participate, reply to the SignWriting List, reply to the Facebook post
in the Sutton SignWriting group, or send me a private email. All I need
is your name and country for you to enter. Bonus entry for anyone who
describes their use of SignWriting or their hope for the future.
Thursday next week, I'll put all of the names in a hat and let you know
the results on Friday.
If you like this idea, consider joining my Patreon campaign to support
this effort and additional giveaways.

-----------------------------
SignPuddle 3 development is moving along nicely. The application is
based on the idea of collections created by our users. There are 6
types of collections.
## Dictionary
A dictionary collection is a group of signs. Each sign language will
have at lease two dictionaries: practice and public. Writing in the
public dictionary will be edited for content, while writing in the
practice dictionary will be left alone. SignPuddle 3 will include
dictionary printing to PDF. So will the PocketPuddle.
## Literature
A literature collection is a group of related text segments. Stories,
books, articles, and other extended writing. Next year I'm hoping to
work on the literature to PDF feature for SignPuddle 3 and the PocketPuddle.
## Interface
An interface collection deals with the user interface language in the
browser. All parts of the system need to be translated into other
languages.
## Alphabet
An alphabet collection is a subset of the ISWA 2010 that has been
tailored for a specific language or project. The alphabet can be
automatically created by analyzing a set of text, or an alphabet can be
custom designed. The alphabets are used on the symbol palettes and
elsewhere for symbol choice.
## Fingerspell
A fingerspell collection is for automatic conversion of spoken words
into a sequence of handshape for spelling.
## Keyboard
The keyboard collection will be used for keyboard commands and typing.
These collections are highly keyboard dependent. The format will be
configurable so that power users will be able to create and share the
keyboard designs for their country and language.
-------
These collections will be created by the users of SignPuddle 3. Each of
these collections will be available for download and for integration
into other software projects.
I am particularly excited to help our users clean up the public
dictionaries. I believe we can create a great resource for autocomplete
and spellchecking.
Thanks for reading,
-Steve
