HOW TO CONSTRUCT A NEW HAND SYMBOL
in Korean SignPuddle Dictionary

Of course we wish all new handshapes could be added immediately to the International SignWriting Alphabet 2010 (ISWA 2010). To add new symbols officially would literally change Unicode and so such a large change would require years of work.

Meanwhile, SignWriting can write any hand symbol by hand. In computers right now we individually construct each new hand symbol with a combination of already existing hand symbols and small finger lines. We save the constructed hand symbols in SignPuddle to use each time we need them.

I analyze this shape as a 5-Hand symbol, with 5 fingers extended, with the Index and Baby Fingers bent at the middle joint.




Step 1: In SignPuddle, to construct this hand symbol, click on SignMaker Icon on the left of the screen:




Step 2: Drag the 5-Hand over to the SignBox:






Step 3: The pre-constructed 5-Hand seems too small to act as a base for the new constructed hand symbol, so then I choose another 5-Hand symbol that only has a thumb to the side, and then I add Finger Lines later:



Step 4:  Small lines from the Finger Movement Symbols can also be useful:





Step 5:  I push the Add To SignPuddle button to save the two constructed symbols so I can use them or refer to them in the future.
