Dear SignWriting Community,
My name is Icaro, and I am currently working on an academic research project about SignWriting. I work at a research institute in Brazil, and my study focuses on exploring inclusive technologies and written systems that can better support the Deaf community in Brazil and beyond.
I am deeply interested in learning more about the SignWriting system—particularly its conceptual foundation, how the symbols are created, and how it was developed to visually and structurally represent sign languages. However, I have encountered limited resources or detailed documentation that explain the creation process of the symbols and the linguistic principles behind them.
If possible, I kindly ask if you could share any official materials, publications, or studies that describe what SignWriting is, how the symbol system is designed, and how it can be applied in educational and research contexts. These resources would be extremely valuable in supporting my academic report and in helping to disseminate this powerful tool within the Brazilian Deaf community.
Thank you very much for your time and for the incredible contribution you’ve made to the field of sign language literacy.
Sincerely,
Icaro Lima
