Dear all,

This information may be of interest to you or your students.

Funding opportunity for international MA students in Paris

The Paris Graduate School of Linguistics <https://paris-gsl.org/index.html> (PGSL) is a newly-formed Paris-area graduate program covering all areas of language science. It offers a comprehensive curriculum integrating advanced study and research, in close connection with PhD programs as well as with the Empirical Foundations of Linguistics consortium. Research plays a central part in the program, and students also take elective courses to develop an interdisciplinary outlook. Prior knowledge of French is not required (except for two MA specialties: 'Teaching French as a Foreign Language' and 'Signs, Discourse, Society'.)

There will be five international student scholarships for 2021-2022 of 8000 euros/year for 1st or 2nd year MA students in linguistics (requirements: not having French nationality and not holding a French university degree). Depending on performance, 1st year MA students may be awarded a scholarship for their second year as well.

Note that students wishing to concentrate on typology/documentary linguistics (among a vast range of subjects) can do so within the three MA specialties of Theoretical and Experimental Linguistics <https://paris-gsl.org/masters/theoretical-experimental-linguistics.html>, Phonetics and Phonology <https://paris-gsl.org/masters/phonetics-phonology.html> and Computational Linguistics <https://paris-gsl.org/masters/computational-linguistics.html>. Students with a particular interest in Tibeto-Burman/Sino-Tibetan languages can be (co-)supervised for their MA thesis by area specialists at various Paris-area research groups, such as CRLAO <http://crlao.ehess.fr/index.php?lang=fr&curr=0>, LACITO <https://lacito.vjf.cnrs.fr/index_en.htm> and HTL <http://htl.linguist.univ-paris-diderot.fr/laboratoire/welcome>.

The application portal will be online on March 15th (application deadline April 15th) at https://paris-gsl.org/index.html.

However, students from the following countries must first register with Etudes en France <https://pastel.diplomatie.gouv.fr/etudesenfrance/dyn/public/authentification/login.html;jsessionid=7E22DA12D0DE7C37C1DFE4F42438211F.jvm01g154-3?codeLangue=EN> before March 5th:

Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Benin, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, Comores, Congo Brazzaville, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, USA, Gabon, Guinea, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mexico, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, Democratic Republic of Congo, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, Taiwan, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey and Vietnam

This step is essential in order to apply for a student visa, once admitted to the program, even though the Etudes en France registration deadline is BEFORE the international student scholarship portal opens! [Please ignore the tuition fees on the Etudes en France website; PGSL applies French student fees to all international students, i.e. about 350 euros per year.]

If you are or have a promising student interested in studying at PGSL, please contact Aimee Lahaussois, aimee.lahaussois at cnrs.fr for more information.
