I'm so sad to hear this! Prof. Sun was the one who, in his office in 2008, set me on the circuitous path to eventually meet my Lizu language consultants, supplying me with an offprint of his sketch of Lizu (or, as he called it, the western dialect of Ersu). May he rest in peace.
