Central and Eastern Europe, Role of The Dialects and Minority Languages
in Multimedia
 
 
In addition to academics, the key target groups of the conference include translators and students who are interested in the translation of dialects in multimedia contexts. The conference will concentrate on a complex, interdisciplinary subject area involving linguistics, communication studies, film studies and translation studies as well as other areas of cultural studies, sociology and other disciplines.
 
The main topics to be covered at the conference include dubbing, subtitling of theatrical and television films in dialect and linguistic varieties; theatre translation; cultural transfer processes in the characteristics of dialects; archaisms, regionalisms, varieties in the continuum between dialect and standard language; diglossia (national language and regional or local language; “official” and “non official” language); the use of new technologies in the translation of dialects. Each presentation with regards the above mentioned issues should be 30minutes, including 10 minutes discussion time.

Abstracts should be submitted by the 15th of June. The Scientific Committee of MMDT will make the selection of abstracts by end June 2014.
 
The conference languages will be English and German.

„Mittel- und Osteuropa, Rolle der Dialekte und Minderheitensprachen
in Multimedia“
 
 
Zielgruppe der Konferenz sind neben Akademikern auch Übersetzer und Studierende, die sich für Dialekte und ihre multimediale Übersetzung interessieren. Die Konferenz widmet sich damit einem komplexen und interdisziplinären Themenbereich, der sich mit Linguistik, Translations- und Literaturwissenschaft, aber auch mit Kommunikationswissenschaft, Film und weiteren Themen und Teilbereichen der Kulturforschung und Sozialwissenschaften beschäftigt.
Die wichtigsten Themen der Konferenz sind Übersetzung durch Synchronisierung und Untertitelung von Kino- und Fernsehfilmen, in denen Dialekt bzw. regionale Varietäten gesprochen werden, Übersetzungen für das Theater, Dialektliteratur und deren Übersetzung, die Rolle der Dialekte in der interkulturellen Kommunikation, Archaismen, regionale Varietäten und der Status der Varietäten zwischen Dialekt und Standardsprache, Diglossie (Landessprache und Minderheitssprachen bzw. Varietäten im Raum, „offizielle“ und „inoffizielle“ Sprachen) sowie die neue Technologie für die Übersetzung der Dialekte.
Konferenzbeiträge von 20 Min. (+ 10 Min für Diskussion) zu den obigen entsprechenden Themenbereichen sind herzlich erwünscht.
 
Die Abstracts müssen bis zum 15. Juni 2014 eintreffen. Der wissenschaftliche Beirat von MMDT wird bis Ende Juni 2014 den Beschluss über die Annahme der Abstracts treffen. Konferenzsprachen sind Englisch und Deutsch.
