[Ura-list] Specialised Information Service for Finno-Ugric / Uralic Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Dear URA-LIST Community
 
We are pleased to inform you about a new project of Göttingen State and University Library:
 
With financial support of the German Research Foundation (DFG), Göttingen State and University Library will establish the Specialised Information Service for Finno-Ugric / Uralic Languages, Literatures and Cultures. [In German: Fachinformationsdienst (FID) Finnisch-ugrische / uralische Sprachen, Literaturen und Kulturen]. The project is scheduled for three years (1 January 2017 – 31 December 2019).
It is part of the Specialised Information Services programme <http://www.dfg.de/en/research_funding/programmes/infrastructure/lis/funding_opportunities/informationservice_science/index.html> of the DFG. The nationwide programme enables German-based researchers of all disciplines to access specialised literature and research-specific information quickly and directly, irrespective of work location. It complements the information infrastructures of the universities and research institutions by offering supraregional services for peak demand.
 
Due to its exceptional position in the language continuum the subject community for the research of Finno-Ugric / Uralic languages and literatures has been developed which has formed very specific demands to information and literature supply. Therefore a concept was prepared in close cooperation with the subject community which will focus on demand-driven acquisition and licensing of highly specialized literature in original languages and provide it beyond local facilities. This project will open up new ways of international cooperation, e.g. licensing of relevant journals or databases and information exchange in the whole field of Finno-Ugric / Uralic Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Bringing the global research community closer together, we would be highly interested in such a development.
