[Ura-list] Reminder: CIFU 2020 Call for Symposia

Dear All,

this is to remind you of the approaching deadline of our call for symposia. To the 13th International Congress of Finno-Ugric Studies (CIFU) in Vienna, August 2020, symposia on all topics within Finno-Ugric studies in the wide sense are welcome. We expect your suggestions (a brief description of the planned symposium and the contact information of the organizer) by the end of October.

Please note that (to quote the original symposium call) "papers representing Hungarian, Finnish, or Estonian studies without wider international, contrastive or comparative relevance would be better placed at a conference with a more specific theme". This does NOT mean that all symposia, let alone all their contributions need include historical or comparative Uralistics or minor Finno-Ugric languages. Rather, the point is that we want to avoid "national shadow sections" in which Finns or Hungarians talk about specifically Finnish or Hungarian topics (say, teaching of Hungarian) within the national research tradition and without inviting outsiders. Finnish or Hungarian themes are OK if they are presented in a way which invites wider participation and more general discussion.
