Dear Uralists,
I would like to announce the recent publication /Topik, Fokus und
Informationsstatus: Modellierung am Material nordwestsibirischer
//Sprachen /by Chris Lasse Däbritz.
Abstract: Information structure is field of research, which has been
intensively worked on during the last decades, especially from a
theoretical point of view. Given the increasing availability of language
data from less studied languages, some information structural phenomena
of Siberian languages were touched upon, too. The volume at hand deals
with the information structural concepts "topic", "focus" and
"information status", as well as with their corresponding linguistic
expressions in five languages of Northern Siberia (Khanty, Enets,
Nganasan; Dolgan; Evenki), focusing on morphosyntax. Thereby, an
existing model of describing information structure within a generative
framework is empirically evaluated against spoken language data, and
eventually enlarged and developed further. Moreover, central information
structural phenomena of the target languages (topic position, focus
position, postverbal backgrounding, objective conjugation and
non-possessive possessive suffixes) are analyzed and described within
the chosen framework. Therefore, the volume at hand contributes to both
the theoretical understanding of information structure and the
description of information structural phenomena in the given languages.
