[Ura-list] Congressus Internationalis Fenno-Ugristarum XIII: Digital pre-event cancelled

Dear colleagues,

(apologies for cross-postings)

as only a handful of people have declared their interest in presenting a paper at the digital pre-CIFU in August 2021, the organizing team has decided to cancel the event. After this very exceptional academic year, which for many of us has meant countless online lectures and Zoom seminars, it is obvious that there is little enthusiasm for one more digital event – especially, as there is still hope for a "real" congress in Vienna next year. The presentations scheduled for the pre-congress will be automatically re-scheduled to the congress proper next year.

The planning of CIFU XIII, due to take place in Vienna from 22 to 27 August, 2022, will continue after the summer break. By that time, we will probably know more about whether and how the congress will be realized (for instance, whether it will be possible or even necessary to organize it in a hybrid form, enabling additional digital participation). At present, the situation in Austria does not look bad, and by the time of the congress, the University of Vienna will have lots of practical experience of events with security measures (distances and controlling them, desinfection, or the implementation of the current 3G rule, i.e. allowing meetings etc. for people who are either getestet (tested negative), geimpft (vaccinated) or genesen (recovered from COVID) and controlling that these criteria are fulfilled.
