> sad news from Mordovia: professor Mihail Mosin passed away on December 2, at the age of 82 years. He was born in the village of Žabino in the Ardatov district in November 2, 1940.

> After studying at the Mordovian State University, Mosin wrote his candidate's thesis on the lexical relations of Mordvin and Estonian under the guidance of academician Paul Ariste at the University of Tartu in 1971. His doctoral thesis on the evolution of the Finno-Ugric word structure in the Mordvin languages was examined at the University of Tartu in 1987.

> After Tartu Mosin returned to MRSU to work, and as a man of action he soon rose in the hierarchy: He was dean of the Philological Faculty 1978–1980 and 1987–2013 and head of the Department of Finno-Ugric and Comparative Linguistics 1988–2018. In spite of his work load at the university and his many positions of trust, Mosin was active in publishing research articles and compendia. He received numerous honours for his academic and public activities.
