Call for papers
Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the 1st Symposium on Indigenous Minority Language Acquisition (SIMILA)<https://blogs.helsinki.fi/simila2023/> to be held on 24th and 25th August 2023 at the University of Helsinki, Finland.
The Symposium aims to bring together researchers and specialists of indigenous minority language learning, and to open discussion on the challenges of developing teaching and learning activities for indigenous minority languages.
The symposium aims to offer multisited discussion fora, we invite panels, papers, workshop-like presentations and discussions as well as tutorials of already developed learning and teaching methods, materials and computational solutions.
Within this framework, the conference welcomes the proposals addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
* reports on indigenous minority language learning activities
* producing teaching or self-teaching materials for indigenous minority languages
* producing language technology tools for indigenous minority languages
* activities aiming to revitalise indigenous minority languages
* theoretical and methodological challenges regarding the learning, teaching or revitalisation of indigenous minority languages
The symposium focuses primarily on Arctic indigenous minority languages, but accepts proposals discussing other language families or geographic areas as well.
Invited speakers:
* Nicole Dołowy-Rybińska, PhD (dr. hab.) (Polish Academy of Sciences)
* Prof. Pigga Keskitalo (University of Lapland)
Promoting multilingualism and the use of indigenous minority languages is priority of the symposium. The working languages of the symposium are English and indigenous minority languages. We encourage participants to produce the written materials in English and give the presentation in any indigenous minority language – or vice versa.
Abstract submission: Abstracts of 300 words (max) with key words can be submitted online using this form<https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/122077/lomakkeet.html>. The deadline for submission is 15 April 2023.
Registration and participation fee: Conference fee is 50 EUR.
